Reviews:Albie from Toucharcade"iPlutoid is fun and different kind of shooter that offers enough innovative elements to make it worthy for fans of the genre. For others, the funky landscapes and smooth controls make this an easy decision. 4/5…..
Rated 3/5 based on 2 customer reviews.
Think Defender, but on a sphere
Something about the angle weapons fire comes out of the ship's nose, combined with difficulty judging the ship's altitude above the plutoid surface in 3D space, make the controls very frustrating to me. I can be aiming directly at an enemy, or at least at an angle that I intuitively think should be aiming at an enemy, but the weapon is firing way too low.
Also, using the radar is next to impossible, at least on devices with retina display. Each enemy is represented as a _SINGLE_ _PIXEL_ on the radar, which makes them difficult to see, much less to discern if they're flashing or whatever they're supposed to do when they abduct a humanoid (because you only have a few seconds to get over there and save them, Defender-style). Since you're flying around a sphere, you really need that radar to find the enemies.
So in a nutshell, firing lines/angles aren't intuitive, and navigating with the radar is painful. Other than that, I like the game concept. I'd really enjoy it if these two issues could be fixed. I could even adapt to the funky 3D perspective if that horrible radar display could be fixed.
My only qualm, as large as it is, is the controls. It seems like this should have a more starpagga style movement.
Circling around the planet becomes just ever so discouraging and confusing after the first round about old boy. Ay what.
Odd unfunny English accents aside, it is time to change to a more intuitive movement design. As is, I can hardly figure out how to move.
I'm giving 4 stars for graphics and concept, the last star must be earned.
